Confession of Faith

Compiled by Messianic Rabbi Ed Rothman

We believe that the Bible, composed of both the Tenach (Torah, Nevy-eem, & Ketu-veem = The Law, The Prophets, & The Writings, also known as The Older Covenant) and HaBrit HaDashah (The New Covenant) is the only infallible and authoritative Word of God. The Holy Scriptures are our rule of faith & the foundation of our beliefs (Psalm 12:6-7, 19:7-11, 119:89; Proverbs 30:5; Isaiah 40:8; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

We believe that God is One (Echad, a Unity), as declared by the Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4) manifested in three persons: the Father (HaAv), the Son (HaBeyn) & the Holy Spirit (HaRuach HaKodesh); as revealed in Holy Scripture as the eternally self-existent Creator / Redeemer (Genesis 1:26; Psalm 2: 7-12 & 110:1-4; Proverbs 30:4; Isaiah 9:6 & 48: 16-17; Matthew 28:19; Colossians 2:9).

We believe in the deity of the LORD Y’shua, (Jesus) the Messiah; in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of G-d, the Father, and His personal return to Jerusalem in power and great glory (Isaiah 9:6-7; 7:14; 53:4-8, 10-12; 61:1; Psalm 16:10-11; 110:1-6; Zechariah 12:10 & 14:3-4; Matthew 24:30).

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration (being born-again) by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential, which comes through repentance from sin and faith in the shed blood, atoning death & bodily resurrection of Y’shua, (Jesus) the Messiah (John 3:3-8; Romans 5:8-11; Romans 10:9-10 & 13; Titus 3:5).

We believe in full Water Immersion (Baptism), following the surrender of our lives to Y’shua, (Jesus) the Messiah, as LORD & Savior; as an act of obedient faith & a testimony of our life being united with the death, burial & resurrection of the Messiah. It is an outward symbol of an inward work of grace, cleansing & supernatural circumcision of the heart (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38 & 10:47-48; Romans 6:3-5; Hebrews 10:22; 1 Peter 3:20-21).

We believe in celebrating the LORD’s Supper (Communion) as commanded by Y’shua, (Jesus) the Messiah; as an act of obedient remembrance of ALL He has done to purchase us as His Eternal Bride. Communion representing our betrothal, bought out of the marketplace of SIN & demonic oppression and redeemed as His purchased possession to be a glorious Congregation. The emblems of the LORD’s supper are Bread (Unleavened during Passover) & Wine (or grape juice). (Mathew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 & 11:23-32; 2 Corinthians 11:2).

We believe that is God’s will for us to be sanctified (cleansed & set apart) unto the LORD and that we are to live a godly life that is honoring to God and inspiring to our fellow man. The Holy Scriptures teach that without holiness, no one shall see the LORD and that we are to be holy, as He is holy (1 Thessalonians 4:3-7; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:15-16; 1 John 2:1-6 & 15-17).

We believe in the present day ministry & gifts of the Holy Spirit, by who’s indwelling the believer in Y’shua, (Jesus) the Messiah, is anointed for supernatural ministry and empowered to live a godly life. We are to be immersed (baptized) in the Holy Spirit to equip us for Evangelism & Discipleship to fulfill the Great Commission (Mark 10:20 & 16:15-20; Acts 1:8, 2:1-18 & 38-39, Romans 8:1,5,9, 14-27 & 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; 1 Peter:1:2).

We believe in Divine healing. The Atonement of Y’shua (Jesus the Messiah) provides deliverance from sin, sickness & eternal death. As Y’shua said to the Paralytic man in Luke 5:18-25, “You’re sins are forgiven,” when he perceived the thoughts of the Pharisees, He responded, “What do you reason in your hearts? Whether is easier, to say, Your sins are forgiven you; or to say, Rise up and walk? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto you, Arise, and take up your couch, and go into your house. Salvation from sin, restoration for our minds and bodies is included in all that Y’shua accomplished for us in His suffering and death (Exodus 15:26; Psalm 103:2-3; Isaiah 53:4-5; Jeremiah 17:14; Matthew 4:23, 9:35, 10:18; Mark 16:15-20; Luke 4:18; Acts 10:38).

We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in the LORD Y’shua (Jesus) the Messiah, and endeavor to maintain fellowship with the universal body of New Covenant believers (Psalm 133:1-3; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Ephesians 4: 1-6).

We believe that Jewish followers of Y’shua (Jesus) the Messiah should be encouraged to celebrate their Biblical Jewish heritage & remain spiritually connected to the people of Israel (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 9: 19-23; Galatians 6:15-16).

We believe that Gentile believers in Messiah Y’shua have equal status in the Kingdom of God, that they are grafted into the Jewish olive tree (of Israel), and are thus encouraged to understand, appreciate and celebrate the Biblical Hebraic Roots of their faith in Messiah Y’shua; partaking of and participating in their spiritual inheritance in Messiah (1 Corinthians 7:17-19; Romans 11:11-26; Galatians 3:14 & 28-29; Galatians 6:15-16; Ephesians 2:11-19).

We believe that no one is justified through keeping the Law of Moses (Torah). Rather, the Torah was given to reveal the holiness of G-d, the sinfulness of man, the Messiah (our need of Him) and as instructions for godly living; to be written on our hearts by HaRuach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit). The Torah is still relevant for us as New Covenant believers in Y’shua today. (Romans 3:20; Galatians 3:23-25 & 6:15-16; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Jeremiah 31:31-34, Matthew 5:17-18).

We believe in God’s everlasting Covenant relationship with the Jewish people, which includes physical (the land of Israel) & spiritual blessings, including the proclamation of the Gospel to the Jew first and also to ALL Nations (Genesis 12:1-3 & 17: 4-8; Jer. 31: 31-37; Romans 1:16).

We believe that in the End of Days (Achareet HaYomeem), after much tribulation, ALL of Israel will turn to God and accept Y’shua as their Messiah. Then the Torah will go forth from Zion and the Word of the L-RD from Jerusalem (Zechariah 12:2-3; 12:10, 13:1 14:2-9; Matthew 23:39; Romans 11:25-27).

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who have been saved through faith in Y’shua (Jesus) the Messiah, unto eternal life and those who reject the gift of eternal life through faith in Y’shua’s atoning death are lost, unto eternal separation from G-d (Psalm 9:17; Isaiah 5:14; Daniel 12:2-3; Matthew 5:22, 29-30; 10:28 & 25:46; 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelation 20:15; 21:6-8 & 22:14-15).

We believe that marriage is an institution created and designed by G-d to be the cornerstone of society. We believe that the Holy Scriptures reveal God’s will for marriage as a covenant union between one man and one woman. We define man (male) & woman (female) as the gender that each individual was created to be within their mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-16, Isaiah 49:1 & 5 & Jeremiah 1:5; Matthew 19:4-6; Ephesians 5:21-33).

“G-d created man in His own image, in the image of G-d created he them; male and female created He them. And G-d blessed them, and said unto them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it.'” – Genesis 1:27-28a –

“And the L-RD G-d said, ‘It is not good for man to be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.’ And Adam gave names to all the animals; but for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. And the L-RD G-d caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept. He then took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh thereof; and with the rib that the L-RD G-d had taken from man, He made a woman and brought her unto the man. </p>

And Adam said, ‘This is now flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh.’ And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed” – Genesis 2:18, 20-25 – “Have you not read, that He which made them at the beginning, made them male and female, and for this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall cleave unto his wife: and the two shall become one flesh? Wherefore they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore G-d has joined together, let no one put asunder.” – Matthew 19:4-6 & Ephesians 5:31 –

We believe that G-d created sexual intimacy as a blessed gift to be shared by one man (a husband) and one woman (a wife); only to be experienced and enjoyed within the sacred covenant union of Holy Matrimony.

“Marriage is to be held in honor in all things, and the marriage bed is undefiled. But G-d will judge those who are unchaste and adulterous.” – Hebrews 13:4 –
